Hand carved cameo of Sardonyx shell (Cassis madagascariensis) in a 18K yellow gold picture frame setting. Cameo is beautifully detailed. She wears a lace snood over an array of curls, a scooped neckline with a large corsage on one shoulder. The handmade clasp and tube hinge are in excellent vintage condition. The Italian goldsmith stamped this twice, on the frame and the bail (wrong side at that). Both times the stamp is off, but the Italian gold mark 750 in a diamond shape is fairly legible on the frame. It also tests as 18K. Shape of the hallmarks indicate this was made after 1968.

♦ Dimensions: Cameo is 1.25 x 1 inches (3.1 x 2.5 cm). Brooch is 1 5/16 x 1.25 inch (3.3 x 2.8 cm). Weight is 4.8 grams.

♦ Markings: 750 Goldsmith mark illegible.
